The Masonic Widows Fund is a voluntary program to help us Master Masons fulfill our obligation to aid the widows of our brothers who have laid down their working tools.
This is accomplished by depositing your desired amount of money into your individual widows fund account (at least $20), and upon the death of another Widows Fund member, $1.25 is withdrawn from every member’s account and is given to the widow (or selected beneficiary) along with the balance of that brother’s account and a standard payout from the Widows Fund. This is not life insurance or meant to finance an entire funeral, but rather help the new widow get by for the first week or so after her loss. The more members we have, the greater the benefit that is given. You are also free to withdrawal your money at any time.
The Widows Fund is open to all Master Masons, and you don’t have to be married. You can make anyone or any entity your beneficiary. You can have it go to your kids, a friend, or if you do not have anyone in mind, you can always leave it to your lodge, they are going to miss you as well.
If you are interested, talk to your lodge’s Widows Fund Trustees. Any of your lodge officers can guide you in the right direction and get you an application.
